Clean streams for Gulu: restoring the Union canal
Help us clean and replant the Union canal before the December planting window closes.
🇺🇬 Uganda1,251 views
The Union canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 77 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 167 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $150 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $55
• Signage and educational materials: $15
• Waste removal and skip hire: $80
Thank you for reading my story.

Wishing you peace, Mwanaisha. Hope this works out for you. I'll check back for the next update. Love from Ciudad de México.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Mwanaisha
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. tools and protective gear comes first ($55) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Let me know if you want more detail.
Rooting for you, Mwanaisha. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Greetings from Moscow.
Can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Gulu
Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about tools and protective gear, advice is welcome too. Let me know if you want more detail.
Take care. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Greetings from Nakhon Ratchasima!
Sending good thoughts, Mwanaisha. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. God bless.
Praying for you. Great idea, hope you get there. Wish I lived closer to Nagpur so I could bring a meal. Thinking of Gulu.
