Clean streams for Guarulhos: restoring the Freedom wetland
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Freedom wetland needs $700 for saplings and equipment.
🇧🇷 São Paulo, Brazil261 views
The Freedom wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 92 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 135 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $700 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $310
• Tools and protective gear: $85
• Waste removal and skip hire: $230
• Signage and educational materials: $75
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Sending good thoughts. Shared it with a few friends. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Thinking of Guarulhos.
Sending love, Heloísa. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did
This could happen to any of us. Greetings from Thủ Đức.
