Clean air and water for Rome: restoring the Jacaranda hillside
Volunteers are restoring the Jacaranda hillside in Rome; $1,700 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇹 Rome, Lazio, Italy2,593 views
The Jacaranda hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This November, 79 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 148 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $920
• Tools and protective gear: $310
• Waste removal and skip hire: $410
• Signage and educational materials: $60
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Updates from Osama
Good news. Because of your gifts ($797 in total) I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Small update. $194 so far, the plan for tools and protective gear is now scheduled.
