Union Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 86 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 66 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted. Where the $2,800 goes: • Waste removal and skip hire: $720 • Signage and educational materials: $250 • Native saplings and stakes: $1,830 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

  • Hope things get better soon, Josiah. Shared it with a few friends. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Mwanza.

More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Rockford.

      • Wishing you the best. I hope things turn around soon. My neighbor in Birmingham donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.

        • Hang in there, Josiah. Shared it with a few friends. After 27 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Melbourne

          • You're not alone, Josiah. Hope this works out for you. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Blessings.
