Clean air and water for Pittsburgh: restoring the Harmony hillside
Help us clean and replant the Harmony hillside before the May planting window closes.
🇺🇸 United States3,333 views
The Harmony hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 45 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 55 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,150 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $660
• Tools and protective gear: $310
• Waste removal and skip hire: $920
• Signage and educational materials: $260
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
Updates from Mercedes
Thank you all. We're at 69% now ($1,487). I'm honestly stunned. we've booked the dates and paid the deposit.
Thank you all. We're at 56% now ($1,208). I'm honestly stunned. the first invoice got paid this week.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($918 in total) the plan for tools and protective gear is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Greetings from Cambridge
More neighborhoods should do this. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. God bless.
