Clean air and water for Negombo: restoring the Cedar wetland
Help us clean and replant the Cedar wetland before the July planting window closes.
Anywhere in the world445 views
The Cedar wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 32 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 116 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $400 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $170
• Tools and protective gear: $80
• Waste removal and skip hire: $120
• Signage and educational materials: $30
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
Updates from Piumi
Thank you all. We're at 64% now ($257). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward native saplings and stakes.
