Clean air and water for Mapo: restoring the Unity hillside
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Unity hillside needs $700 for saplings and equipment.
🇰🇷 Mapo, Seoul, South Korea1,641 views
The Unity hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 65 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 72 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $700 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $50
• Waste removal and skip hire: $410
• Tools and protective gear: $240
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Thinking of you and your family. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
best of luck. Hope this works out for you. I'll check back for the next update. Love from Augsburg.
You're not alone, Hye-jin. More neighborhoods should do this. Greetings from Dwarka
You're not alone, Hye-jin. Hope you get there. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Thinking of Mapo.
