A neighborhood-led restoration of Unity Creek needs $300 for saplings and equipment.

Unity Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 96 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 94 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $300 goes: • Native saplings and stakes: $100 • Tools and protective gear: $95 • Waste removal and skip hire: $70 • Signage and educational materials: $35 If you're reading this, thank you.

Updates from Bukola

  1. Thank you all. We're at 55% now ($164). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for tools and protective gear is now scheduled.

  2. Update from Lagos: I made the first payment toward tools and protective gear. We're at 21% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Wanted to say thank you properly. 13% funded and I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts.

  • So sorry you're going through this. More neighborhoods should do this. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. God bless.
