Citizenship application: Johanna needs $2,900 before the deadline
A citizenship application deadline is approaching and Johanna can't afford the lawyer.
🇩🇪 Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany1,065 views
Johanna is facing a citizenship application. The hearing is scheduled for May, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $2,900. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline.
Johanna has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at the Hamburg Community Legal Centre has confirmed that the case is valid.
If the deadline is missed Johanna could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know.
The money goes to the immigration attorney's trust account and the court filing office. I'll upload receipts with sensitive details removed.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Attorney retainer: $2,100
• Filing and biometrics fees: $550
• Certified translations and document copies: $90
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $160
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
