Álvaro is facing a citizenship application. The hearing is scheduled for March, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $3,000. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline.
Álvaro has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at Birmingham Welcome Centre has confirmed that the case is valid.
If the deadline is missed Álvaro could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know.
Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer.

• Filing and biometrics fees: $390
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $190
• Attorney retainer: $2,420

So sorry you're going through this, Iván. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 11 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
