Roman was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in October. The surgeon at Los Angeles General Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and He is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $11,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $8,500 short. my husband has been in and out of Los Angeles General Hospital since October. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $11,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Roman struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Roman won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $8,500 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,600 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $3,300 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $360 • Post-operative medication: $280 • Physiotherapy sessions: $710 • Travel and lodging for the family: $250 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
