Parvathi was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in July. The surgeon at Aurangabad General Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,150, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $800 short. my wife has been in and out of Aurangabad General Hospital since July. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,150 is more than we can find. While we wait, Parvathi struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Parvathi won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $800 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $280 • Travel and lodging for the family: $35 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $390 • Post-operative medication: $25 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $70 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Jagadish

Updates from Jagadish

  1. Quick update: $415 raised so far (52%). I made the first payment toward post-operative medication. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($275 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
