Cataract surgery for Leonardo: covering what insurance won't

Leonardo was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in July. The surgeon at Rockford Orthopedic Institute recommended cataract surgery, and He is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $3,000 short.
my son has been in and out of Rockford Orthopedic Institute since July. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Leonardo struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Leonardo won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
