Cataract surgery for Hatice: covering what insurance won't
After a herniated spinal disc, Hatice was cleared for cataract surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Hatice was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in May. The surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,300, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,050 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Saint Elizabeth Hospital since May. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,300 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Hatice struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Hatice won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
