Garima was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections in January. The surgeon at Bengaluru General Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $950 short. my sister has been in and out of Bengaluru General Hospital since January. The doctors say gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Garima struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Garima won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
