Cataract surgery for Christopher: covering what insurance won't
After a benign brain tumor, Christopher was cleared for cataract surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Christopher was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in October. The surgeon at Surrey General Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and He is scheduled for February. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,750, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,050 short.
my brother has been in and out of Surrey General Hospital since October. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Christopher struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Christopher won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,050 goes:
• Travel and lodging for the family: $370
• Physiotherapy sessions: $380
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $300
