I'm caring for my father, who's 87. After a diagnosis of dementia Santiago can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Santiago desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Santiago worked all of his life as a farmer, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $4,250 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $2,950
• Medication and prescriptions: $540
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $220
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $540
