Bread & Beans Kitchen: keep the shelves full this harvest gap
The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in San Jose is running low just as demand rises; $2,400 will stock it for 7 weeks.

Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 14 families, and now we feed 334 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 53% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 8 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the San Jose market and keep every receipt.
Each $35 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $2,400 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $960
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,200
• Refrigeration and electricity: $240

It's all in the list in the story. fresh vegetables and fruit is the big one at $960, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Fair thing to want to know.
