Ikeja
In June I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My oncology team at Ikeja Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 31, I worked as a primary school teacher until June, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Ikeja Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $530 • Scans and lab work: $80 • Transport to Ikeja Cancer Centre: $140 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $85 • Household costs while unable to work: $265 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

  • Hang in there, Bola. I hope things turn around soon. Greetings from Sydney

    • Hope things get better soon, Bola. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. After 24 years in customer support I know how hard it is to ask for anything. Take care
