Birgit is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a nursing degree at Essen Community College, and is one term away from graduating. She has worked as a warehouse packer to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $4,250. The registrar has said Birgit can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Birgit has a 3.6 average, and a department head has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Birgit would lose her place and scholarship eligibility. Birgit isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Essen Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $4,250 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $2,250 • Final term tuition: $1,700 • Exam and lab fees: $80 • Textbooks and materials: $220 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
