Back to business - Ochieng's comeback in Embakasi
A neighborhood bakery in Embakasi needs help replacing a commercial oven after a long illness and repossession.
Anywhere in the world1,044 views
For fifteen years I have run a neighborhood bakery in Embakasi. In April, a long illness and repossession took a commercial oven. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me.
Before that, my customers came every Friday, and I employed 2 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 12 weeks.
This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment.
Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item.
Once I'm back on my feet I plan to hire back the people I had to let go.
Where the $400 goes:
• Working capital for the first month: $80
• Initial stock: flour, butter and sugar: $55
• Replacing a commercial oven: $265
Thank you for reading my story.

is there anything that isn't money that would help Ochieng?
Thank you. If you're in Embakasi I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Thanks for looking so closely.
keep going, Ochieng. Shared this with my family. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care
Sending strength. Small businesses are the heart of Embakasi. Hope you're open again soon. Put this on a community board in Savar this morning. Greetings from Savar!
