Auma was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in April. The surgeon at Embakasi Community Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,850, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $1,100 short.
my mother has been in and out of Embakasi Community Hospital since April. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,850 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Auma struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Auma won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
