Mombasa
In September I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Mombasa Regional Medical Center recommended spinal decompression surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $400, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $300 short. Doctors at Mombasa Regional Medical Center told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. I work as a restaurant cook, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $400 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a restaurant cook have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 3 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $300 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $70 • Post-operative medication: $35 • Physiotherapy sessions: $135 • Travel and lodging for the family: $60 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Updates from Athumani

  1. Small update. $164 so far, the plan for post-operative medication is now scheduled.

  2. Small update. $154 so far, I met with the hospital and confirmed the amounts.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 28% now ($84). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward pre-operative tests and imaging.
