Arianna was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in July. The surgeon at San Francisco Regional Medical Center recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $4,950 short. my mother has been in and out of San Francisco Regional Medical Center since July. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Arianna struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Arianna won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
