Medellín
In August I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My oncology team at the Medellín Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 35, I worked as a primary school teacher until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Medellín Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $850 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $420 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $90 • Scans and lab work: $340 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Updates from Araceli

  1. We're at 6% thanks to 2 of you. the plan for nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team is now scheduled. More news soon.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($82 in total) I made the first payment toward household costs while unable to work. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. We're at 3% thanks to 1 of you. the plan for scans and lab work is now scheduled. More news soon.

You're not alone. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 9 years in logistics I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Pune.
