When my hours were cut in half in December, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $1,300. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by April, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $1,300 goes: • Rent arrears (3 months): $930 • Late fees and court costs: $55 • Utilities in arrears: $35 • First month of rent as a buffer: $280 Thank you for reading my story. - Andrei

  • Sending good thoughts, Andrei. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.

    • Rooting for you. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 8 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Hồ Chí Minh City

      • Best of luck, Andrei. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.

Hope it all works out, Andrei. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.

          • Hope it all works out, Andrei. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I hope April is when things finally get easier. Take care.
