In August I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My oncology team at Feira de Santana Regional Medical Center has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 46, I worked as a hairdresser until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Feira de Santana Regional Medical Center 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $3,800 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,650 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $230 • Household costs while unable to work: $620 • Scans and lab work: $300 Thank you so much.
