I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at the Santarém Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $1,600.
My current equipment is 10 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 6 weeks.
With the right equipment I could speak with the people around her. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• pair of hearing aids: $1,400
• Fitting and training sessions: $90
• Delivery and set-up: $25
• First-year servicing plan: $85
