Akoth's hip replacement surgery can't wait - please help us cover the bill
Akoth needs hip replacement surgery at Zanzibar City Community Hospital and the family is $500 short of the hospital's estimate.

In April I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Zanzibar City Community Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for June. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $710, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $500 short.
Doctors at Zanzibar City Community Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without hip replacement surgery. I work as a farm laborer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $710 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a farm laborer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $500 goes:
• Physiotherapy sessions: $95
• Post-operative medication: $45
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $300
• Travel and lodging for the family: $60
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
