Akash's a partial thyroidectomy can't wait - please help us cover the bill
After a benign brain tumor, Akash was cleared for a partial thyroidectomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In August I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. My surgeon at Saint Catherine Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $1,000 short.
Doctors at Saint Catherine Hospital told me a benign brain tumor will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. I work as a school bus driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,250 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a school bus driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $260
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $470
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $80
• Post-operative medication: $50
• Physiotherapy sessions: $65
• Travel and lodging for the family: $75
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Sending love, Akash. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did.
