Ajay was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in June. The surgeon at Mumbai Community Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,850, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,100 short.
my father has been in and out of Mumbai Community Hospital since June. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,850 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Ajay struggles with daily life and can't drive. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Ajay won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
