ACL reconstruction for Githinji: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled ACL reconstruction in September is out of reach without help covering $950 of the cost.

Githinji was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in July. The surgeon at Kisumu University Hospital recommended ACL reconstruction, and He is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,200, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $950 short.
my husband has been in and out of Kisumu University Hospital since July. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Githinji struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Githinji won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $950 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $430
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $210
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $80
• Post-operative medication: $65
• Physiotherapy sessions: $140
• Travel and lodging for the family: $25
Every share and every dollar helps.
