ACL reconstruction for Eleanor: covering what insurance won't
After a thyroid nodule that needs removal, Eleanor was cleared for ACL reconstruction, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Eleanor was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in March. The surgeon at Surrey Regional Medical Center recommended ACL reconstruction, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $4,800 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Surrey Regional Medical Center since March. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Eleanor struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Eleanor won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $4,800 goes:
• Physiotherapy sessions: $460
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $410
• Travel and lodging for the family: $360
• Post-operative medication: $280
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,290
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
