A youth football pitch: a volunteer-led effort in Olinda
A community-led a youth football pitch at the Acacia vacant lot that will serve 361 neighbors.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a youth football pitch. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $400, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 361 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $500 goes:
• Materials: $320
• Permits and inspections: $70
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
