A weekly visit for Shefali, 79, who lives alone in Dhaka

Shefali lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Shefali, who's 79. Shefali lives alone in Dhaka, and lost a sister last year. The nearest family lives a long flight away. Shefali loves chess, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Tuesday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. I hope life is good to you.

  • Hope things get better soon, Rahim. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.

    • Sending love. Wishing Shefali a smooth procedure and a full recovery. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. God bless.
