A weekly visit for Salim, 78, who lives alone in Nairobi

Looking for a friendly person in Nairobi to visit Salim once a week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Salim, who's 78. Salim lives alone in Nairobi, and lost a lifelong friend last year. The nearest family lives several hours away. Salim loves crossword puzzles, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Monday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Thank you so much.

  • Thinking of you and your family, Halima. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Maringá but we're thinking of you. Take care.

    • Wishing you the best. Get well soon. I'm in construction myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Take care

Hope things get better soon, Halima. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.

                • You're not alone. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. My neighbor in Manila donated after I showed her your page!
