A weekly visit for Nebiyu, 82, who lives alone in Bahir Dar

An hour a week, a chat, and a cup of tea - that's all Nebiyu is asking for.

Bahir Dar
I'm writing for my neighbor Nebiyu, who's 82. Nebiyu lives alone in Bahir Dar, and lost a son last year. The nearest family lives a long flight away. Nebiyu loves knitting, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Thursday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

  • Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I'll check back for the next update. Greetings from Nagpur.

    • Sending strength, Ruth. It takes guts to ask. Well done

      • Sending love, Ruth. Looking forward to the next update. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Greetings from Jakarta Barat

        • Take care, Ruth. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Bahir Dar.

          • So sorry you're going through this, Ruth. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Please keep us posted.
