A weekly visit for Minato, 76, who lives alone in Tokyo

Minato lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Minato, who's 76. Minato lives alone in Tokyo, and lost a sister last year. The nearest family lives on the other side of the country. Minato loves chess, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Tuesday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

      • Hang in there, Akari. Shared it with a few friends. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry

        • Stay strong, Akari. Hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected

          • You're not alone, Akari. I hope things turn around soon
