A weekly visit for Genet, 89, who lives alone in Jimma

Genet lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

Jimma
I'm writing for my neighbor Genet, who's 89. Genet lives alone in Jimma, and lost a son last year. The nearest family lives on the other side of the country. Genet loves gardening, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Sunday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

This helper is honest and transparent about what they can do. They didn't overpromise, but they did deliver excellent results. I would definitely trust them again.

  • Hope things get better soon, Habtamu. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick.

    • Take care, Habtamu. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.

      • Thanks for sharing this. This could happen to any of us. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Blessings

        • Your post was clear and honest. Sent it to 6 people at work. Thinking of Jimma.

          • thanks for sharing this. Hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Blessings.
