For three years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $240, and the remaining cost is $800.
It will serve about 530 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $800 goes:
• Materials: $580
• Permits and inspections: $80
• Safety equipment and signage: $85
• Tools hire and delivery: $55
