A solar-powered water pump for the old Maple bus depot: help our neighbors in San Antonio
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at the old Maple bus depot that will serve 360 neighbors.
🇺🇸 San Antonio, Texas, United States1,368 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 18 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Maple bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,400.
It will serve about 360 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,400 goes:
• Materials: $1,050
• Permits and inspections: $290
• Safety equipment and signage: $470
• Tools hire and delivery: $590

Great idea, hope you get there. After 7 years in construction I know how hard it is to ask for anything.
Take care, Lorena. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
