A solar-powered water pump for the Jacaranda community hall: help our neighbors in Chennai
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a solar-powered water pump - we need $500 for materials.
🇮🇳 India1,016 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 500 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $500 goes:
• Materials: $370
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Safety equipment and signage: $30
• Tools hire and delivery: $60
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Hope it all works out. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Greetings from Augsburg.
Thinking of you and your family, Kavita. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Greetings from Mombasa
