A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Thane
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at the Sycamore vacant lot that will serve 226 neighbors.
🇮🇳 Maharashtra, India1,076 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $550.
It will serve about 226 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $550 goes:
• Materials: $470
• Tools hire and delivery: $50
• Safety equipment and signage: $30
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
