A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Riyadh
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at Unity Primary School that will serve 296 neighbors.
Anywhere in the world1,552 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Unity Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $670, and the remaining cost is $1,500.
It will serve about 296 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Materials: $820
• Permits and inspections: $190
• Safety equipment and signage: $150
• Tools hire and delivery: $340

Stay strong, Fatima. Shared it with a few friends. Thinking of Riyadh.
Praying for you. Hope this works out for you. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Thinking of Riyadh.
Best of luck, Fatima. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.
