A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Pune

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 10 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Lotus Park, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $550. It will serve about 403 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $550 goes: • Materials: $490 • Permits and inspections: $15 • Safety equipment and signage: $20 • Tools hire and delivery: $25 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Myra
