A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Montego Bay
Volunteers in Montego Bay are raising $950 for a solar-powered water pump at the Liberty health centre yard.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $950.
It will serve about 124 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $950 goes:
• Materials: $580
• Permits and inspections: $65
• Safety equipment and signage: $150
• Tools hire and delivery: $155
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
