A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Madrid
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at Liberty Primary School that will serve 123 neighbors.
Anywhere in the world1,348 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Liberty Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $1,550.
It will serve about 123 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,550 goes:
• Materials: $880
• Permits and inspections: $240
• Safety equipment and signage: $280
• Tools hire and delivery: $150
Thanks for being kind about this.

Stay strong. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Madrid.
Sending good thoughts. Shared it with a few friends. Wish I lived closer to Cork so I could bring a meal. Take care
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Love from Cork.
