A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Laval
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at the Freedom vacant lot that will serve 336 neighbors.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $4,200.
It will serve about 336 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $4,200 goes:
• Materials: $3,250
• Permits and inspections: $120
• Safety equipment and signage: $370
• Tools hire and delivery: $460
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
