A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Lagos
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at the Jacaranda vacant lot that will serve 216 neighbors.
🇳🇬 Lagos, Nigeria761 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $550.
It will serve about 216 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $550 goes:
• Materials: $360
• Permits and inspections: $25
• Safety equipment and signage: $80
• Tools hire and delivery: $85
Glad we found this place.

Sending good thoughts. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My neighbor in Kassel donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.
