A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Ikeja

We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a solar-powered water pump - we need $500 for materials.

Ikeja
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Freedom bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $195, and the remaining cost is $500. It will serve about 515 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $500 goes: • Materials: $390 • Permits and inspections: $40 • Safety equipment and signage: $30 • Tools hire and delivery: $40 Thanks for being kind about this. - Damilola

Updates from Damilola

  1. Wanted to say thank you properly. 74% funded and I made the first payment toward tools hire and delivery.

  2. Update from Ikeja: we've started the first stage. We're at 44% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 19% now ($95). I'm honestly stunned. we've started the first stage.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Damilola

Sure. The biggest one is materials, $390. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Appreciate you taking the time.
